Using Ok Alone and the Geotab Drive App to stay safe

Integrating Ok Alone with the Geotab Drive App provides drivers with hands-free safety monitoring. When you start a monitoring session in the Drive App, Ok Alone tracks your status and issues check-in reminders as needed. Follow the steps below to set up and use this integration.

Prerequisites

  1. Ok Alone Account

    • Ensure you have an active Ok Alone driver account.

  2. Geotab Drive App Installed

    • Download and install the Geotab Drive App on your mobile device (iOS or Android).

  3. Geotab Device Linked

    • Your supervisor must link your Geotab telematics device to your Ok Alone driver profile. Without this connection, Drive Mode cannot detect when you are driving.

  4. GPS and Data Connection

    • Turn on your phone’s GPS/location services and ensure you have cellular data or Wi-Fi. This allows Drive Mode to update your status accurately.

Starting a Monitoring Session

  1. Open the Geotab Drive App on your phone.

  2. Log in with your Ok Alone driver credentials.

  3. Once logged in, the app automatically starts a monitoring session in Ok Alone.

Important: Keep the Drive App running in the background to maintain an active monitoring session. If the app closes, Ok Alone will eventually end your session.

How Drive Mode Works

  • Automatic Detection
When Drive Mode is active, Ok Alone disables check-in timers while your vehicle is moving.

  • Vehicle Moving → Drive Mode
After you start the engine, Drive Mode may take 2–3 minutes to switch to “Driving.” During this time, Ok Alone verifies data from your Geotab device.

  • Check-In Suspension
Once Drive Mode detects you are driving, Ok Alone automatically checks you in and suspends further reminders until you stop.

  • Vehicle Stopped → Normal Monitoring
After you park and turn off the engine, Drive Mode switches to “Not Driving.” Ok Alone then starts a check-in timer (default 60 minutes, unless your Monitor chose a different interval).

Check-In Timers and Reminders

  1. Leaving the Vehicle
When Drive Mode switches to “Not Driving,” Ok Alone begins a check-in timer—usually set to 60 minutes by default.

  2. Check-In Reminder (Phone Call)

    • When the timer expires, Ok Alone calls your phone from +1 604-256-5739.

    • You can:

      • Press 1 to check in.

      • Press 3 to end your shift.

      • Press 0 to request help.

  3. Check-In Reminder (SMS)

    • Ok Alone sends an SMS from +1 604-256-5739.

    • Reply with:

      • “ok” to check in.

      • “end” to end your shift.

      • “help” to request assistance.

  4. Manual Check-In or Help

    • At any time, you can call +1 604-256-5739, enter your PIN (if prompted), and follow voice prompts to check in, end your shift, or request help.

Ending a Monitoring Session

  1. When your workday ends, log out of the Geotab Drive App.

    • Logging out automatically ends your Ok Alone monitoring session.

  2. If the Drive App remains open but you do not move (no location activity) for 60 minutes, Ok Alone also ends the session automatically.

Tip: Always log out when you finish work to prevent missed check-in alerts when you’re off duty.

Important Notes

  • Check In Before You Drive
If you have a pending check-in before starting your vehicle, manually check in to avoid a missed-check-in alert.

  • Keep GPS On
Drive Mode requires GPS to detect motion. Ensure your phone’s location services are enabled for Ok Alone.

  • Choose GPS Accuracy
In the Drive App’s Ok Alone settings, select:

    • GPS High for faster detection (uses more battery).

    • GPS Normal for reduced battery usage (may take slightly longer to detect movement).

  • Data Connection
A stable cellular or Wi-Fi connection is needed so Ok Alone receives real-time updates from Geotab.

  • Geotab Link Verification
If Drive Mode fails to detect driving, confirm with your supervisor that your Geotab device is properly linked to your Ok Alone profile.

Troubleshooting

  • Drive Mode Stuck at “Not Driving”

    • Verify GPS is turned on and set to “Always Allow” for Ok Alone.

    • Check that your Geotab device is transmitting vehicle data.

    • Restart your phone and reopen both the Geotab Drive App and Ok Alone.

  • Missed Automatic Check-In

    • Manually check in before starting the engine.

    • If automatic check-in continues to fail, ask your supervisor to verify the Geotab integration.

  • Receiving Alerts While Driving

    • Open Ok Alone in the Drive App and confirm the status is “Driving.”

    • If it still shows “Not Driving,” switch GPS accuracy or move to an area with better coverage.
