Link SPOT to Ok Alone with SPOT’s Data Push

A SPOT device can integrate with Ok Alone using SPOT’s Data Push feature. Once linked, your SPOT device can send location updates, start and end shifts, and communicate status—even outside of cellular coverage. Follow the steps below to configure Data Push in your SPOT account and link the device to a worker in Ok Alone.

Prerequisites

  • SPOT Account with Data Push Enabled
Ensure your SPOT subscription plan includes the Data Push feature. If you do not see Data Push in your SPOT account, email info@okalone.net to request activation.

  • SPOT Device (e.g., SPOT X or SPOT G3)
You must have a registered SPOT device with a valid ESN (Electronic Serial Number).

  • Ok Alone Worker Profile
Confirm the worker exists in your Ok Alone dashboard (https://my.okalone.net). You need access to edit the worker’s profile to paste the SPOT ESN.

1. Configure SPOT Data Push

  1. Sign In to SPOT

  2. Open Data Push Settings

    • In the main menu, select Data Push.

    • Click the Edit button.

    • If you have never used Data Push before, the fields will likely be blank.

  3. Set Protocol and Callback URL

    • Under Protocol, select Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS).

    • Check Forward 911 to me.

    • In the Callback Service URL field, paste: https://appapiv1.okalone.net/spot

    • Click Update to save your changes.

2. Obtain Your SPOT Device ESN

  1. Navigate to “My Devices”

    • In your SPOT account, click the My Devices tab.

    • Locate your SPOT device in the list. You will see a description and its ESN.

  2. Copy the ESN

    • Highlight the ESN (an alphanumeric code) and copy it to your clipboard. You’ll paste this into the Ok Alone dashboard in the next step.

3. Link the SPOT Device to a Worker in Ok Alone

  1. Log In to Ok Alone

  2. Open the Worker’s Profile

    • In the sidebar, click Workers.

    • From the list, find the worker who will use the SPOT device. Click Edit next to their name.

  3. Paste the SPOT ESN

    • In the Edit Worker form, scroll to the SPOT Device section.

    • In the ESN input field, paste the ESN you copied from SPOT.

    • Click Update your SPOT Device to save.

  4. Verify the Link

    • After saving, the worker’s profile should display the SPOT ESN under SPOT Device.

    • Test by sending a test check-in from the SPOT device (refer to SPOT’s user guide for sending a “Check-In” via Data Push). Ok Alone should register the check-in automatically.

4. Using Your SPOT Device with Ok Alone

  • Check-Ins Outside Cellular Coverage
If you press “Check-In” on your SPOT device, Data Push sends that update to Ok Alone over satellite, marking you safe even without cell service.

  • Start and End Shifts
Your SPOT device can request a shift start or end; Ok Alone updates your shift status accordingly.

  • Communication with Monitors
Depending on your SPOT plan, you may send custom messages (Help, OK, etc.) that Ok Alone logs as status updates.

Tip: Review the SPOT user manual for your model (SPOT X, SPOT G3, etc.) to learn button sequences for Check-In, Help, and Custom Messages.

Troubleshooting

  • Data Push Fields Not Available

    • If the Data Push section is missing or grayed out in your SPOT account, contact info@okalone.net to verify your SPOT plan.

  • SPOT ESN Not Accepted by Ok Alone

    • Double-check you copied the full ESN (no extra spaces).

    • Confirm the worker’s profile exists and that no other worker uses the same ESN.

  • Ok Alone Doesn’t Receive SPOT Check-Ins
