Below are answers to common questions about Ok Alone, covering Workers, Monitors, plan limits, check-ins, alerts, devices, pricing, and more. If your question isn’t addressed here, email customer.support@okalone.net.
Workers and Monitors
What are Workers and Monitors?
-
Workers are team members who work alone—whether making home care visits, travelling solo, on a job site, or staying late in the office.
-
Monitors are the people alerted if a Worker misses a check-in or sends a help alert. Monitors can be a Worker’s line manager, another on-site colleague, a family member, or an external live monitoring service.
Do I have to watch a screen all day if I’m a Monitor?
No. Although Monitors have a web dashboard, Ok Alone notifies them by:
-
Dashboard/Webpage Notification
-
Email
-
SMS
-
Automated Phone Call
Monitors can view the dashboard on a phone or tablet whenever they’re out of the office. You’re not tied to your desk.
Free Trial and Account Size
How many people can I have on my free trial?
There is no limit on the number of Workers or Monitors you can add during the free trial.
How many Workers or Monitors can I have in total?
There is no practical limit. You can assign as many Workers to each Monitor, and up to 5 Monitors to each Worker.
Checking In and Reminders
How can Workers check in using Ok Alone?
Workers can check in four ways:
-
Smartphone App
-
Calling In (landline or mobile)
-
Text Message (SMS)
-
Responding to an Inbound Phone Call
No special hardware or data plan is required if you use any phone capable of voice or SMS.
Can Ok Alone remind Workers to start their shift?
Yes—if your account includes the Automated Monitoring plan. Ok Alone can send an SMS or email to remind a Worker to start their shift.
Can Ok Alone remind people to end their shifts automatically?
Yes—when you use Automated Calls. If a Worker forgets to end a shift, you can configure a call just before shift end to remind them. This prevents false alarms when Workers forget to close out.
Can I vary the frequency of check-in for each Worker?
Yes. You can set check-in intervals anywhere from 5 minutes to 24 hours—or choose not to have a timer at all.
Can I vary how frequently the Worker gets a reminder alarm on the app?
Yes. You can choose reminders every 30 seconds up to 1 hour. (On iOS devices, reminders must be in 1 minute increments.) You can also configure repeating SMS messages or automated phone calls.
What if I go out of cell phone coverage?
-
If the Ok Alone app detects no service, it prompts Workers to check in via text message or by calling a landline number.
-
Workers can check in via SMS or phone from any satellite phone if cell coverage is unavailable.
Location and Tracking
Does the system track Workers? Can it be turned off?
-
Ok Alone updates location every 10 seconds to 2 minutes (depending on GPS settings).
-
Workers choose from four GPS modes: GPS High, GPS Normal, Non-GPS, or Off.
-
We recommend GPS High for precise locations in emergencies.
Workers can disable GPS entirely, but Monitors won’t see real-time location when it’s off.
Alerts and Grace Period
Can I change when a Monitor receives an alert?
Yes. The Grace Period (Monitor alert delay) determines how long Ok Alone waits after a missed check-in before notifying Monitors. You can set it from 5 to 90 minutes.
Can I have more than one Monitor per Worker?
Yes. You can assign multiple Monitors to each Worker. If one Monitor can’t respond, Ok Alone can escalate to the next person in your escalation procedure or to a Live Monitoring service.
High Risk and Man Down
What is a High Risk check-in?
A High Risk check-in allows a Worker to indicate they are in a hazardous situation. Ok Alone shortens the check-in interval and escalates immediately if they miss a check-in during High Risk mode.
What is Man Down?
Man Down detects when a Worker appears immobile (based on motion sensors). If Man Down is enabled, Ok Alone alerts Monitors within a shorter grace period.
Devices and App
What devices can use the app?
Ok Alone is available on:
-
Android (Google Play Store)
-
iPhone (iOS) (App Store)
Is there a local number to call for landline check-ins?
Yes. Depending on your region:
-
Canada: +1 604 256 5739 or +1 438 500 1809
-
UK: +44 7380 336757
-
Australia: +61 3 8658 1382
-
New Zealand: +64 9 887 8405
Can I go hands-free?
Yes. Workers can link Ok Alone to Siri or any Alexa Dot device for voice-activated status updates.
Shift Management and Logs
Do I have access to my log files?
Yes. All Monitors can download Log Files from the dashboard. These include check-in timestamps, alert history, and shift details.
How do I set my local time?
-
In the dashboard, click Settings → Settings (left toolbar).
-
Under Local Time, Monitors select their time zone.
Workers see times in their app based on the company’s time zone or their own if Advanced Time Zone Settings are enabled.
Global Coverage
Does Ok Alone work anywhere in the world?
Yes. Ok Alone works wherever there is a cell network or traditional landline. It also supports satellite phones when cell service is unavailable.
Website and Dashboard
Who has access to my website account?
Only Monitors have dashboard access. Workers do not see or change system settings.
How are Monitors alerted to a missed check-in or help call?
Monitors receive notifications by:
-
Dashboard/Webpage alert
-
SMS
-
Email
-
Automated Phone Call
What is an escalation procedure?
An Escalation Procedure is the step-by-step guide Monitors follow when a Worker misses a check-in or sends a help alert. You can configure a company-wide procedure and/or unique procedures per Worker. Only Monitors can update escalation procedures.
