Android 8 App Settings and Permissions

To ensure optimal performance and accurate monitoring on Android 8, accept the default permissions and settings when installing the Ok Alone app. If you adjust any settings, restart the app and any active shifts. If settings remain out of sync, reinstall the app and accept all default permissions. Follow the steps below to verify and configure recommended options.

Overview

  • Ok Alone relies on GPS and notifications to track your location and remind you to check in.

  • Granting location access “all the time” ensures background updates, even when your screen is off.

  • Proper notification settings guarantee you don’t miss check-in reminders or alerts.

1. App Location Monitoring

  1. Open the Ok Alone app.

  2. Tap Menu ›› App Settings ›› Location Monitoring.

  3. Select GPS Normal.

    Why GPS Normal?

    • Uses GPS for accurate location in emergencies.

    • Minimizes battery consumption compared to higher-accuracy modes.

2. Verify Android System Settings

On Android 8, confirm that Ok Alone has the needed system permissions:

  1. Open your device’s Settings app.

  2. Tap Apps (or Apps & notifications) → Ok Alone.

On the Ok Alone app info page, ensure the following:

  • Notifications are Allowed.

  • Permissions show Location granted.

3. Location Permission

To allow continuous background location updates:

  1. In Settings ›› Apps ›› Ok Alone ›› Permissions, tap Location.

  2. Set it to Allow all the time (not just “While using the app”).

Tip: Allowing location “all the time” ensures Ok Alone can detect missed check-ins even when the app is in the background or the device is locked.

4. Notification Settings

Proper notification configuration ensures you receive all reminders and alerts:

  1. In Settings ›› Apps ›› Ok Alone, tap Notifications.

  2. Confirm Show notifications is enabled.

  3. Under Notification categories, enable each of the following (if present):

    • Check-In Reminders

    • Missed Check-In Alerts

    • Help Alerts

    • Status Confirmations

  4. For each category, verify that:

    • Sound is turned on (choose a distinct tone).

    • Pop on screen (or “Peeking”) is enabled so notifications appear even when locked.

    • Lock screen notifications are set to “Show all notification content.”

Tip: If your device shows separate “Sound” and “Vibrate” toggles, enable both to ensure you notice alerts even in silent or Do Not Disturb modes.
