For reliable location updates and timely alerts on Android 9, it’s best to accept the Ok Alone app’s default permissions and recommended settings upon installation. If you change any settings, restart the app and any active shifts. If you still experience issues, reinstall the app and accept default permissions.
1. App Location Monitoring
Ok Alone uses GPS to track Workers’ locations during shifts and emergencies. To balance accuracy and battery life, choose GPS Normal:
-
Open the Ok Alone app.
-
Tap Menu ›› App Settings ›› Location Monitoring.
-
Select GPS Normal.
Why GPS Normal?
-
Uses GPS for accurate location when needed.
-
Minimizes battery drain compared to higher-accuracy modes.
-
2. Verify Android System App Settings
On Android 9, confirm that Ok Alone has the necessary system permissions:
-
Open Settings on your device.
-
Tap Apps & notifications ›› See all apps (or simply Apps) ›› Ok Alone.
On the Ok Alone app info page, confirm:
-
Notifications: Allowed
-
Permissions: Location
3. Location Permission
To allow Ok Alone to update your location even when the screen is off or the app is in the background:
-
In Settings ›› Apps & notifications ›› Ok Alone ›› Permissions, tap Location.
-
Select Allow all the time (not just “Allow only while using the app”).
Tip: Granting background location access ensures Ok Alone can detect missed check-ins and send help alerts regardless of whether you’re actively using the app.
4. Notification Settings
Proper notification settings make sure you never miss a check-in reminder or Help Alert:
-
In Settings ›› Apps & notifications ›› Ok Alone, tap Notifications.
-
Confirm Show notifications is enabled.
-
Under Notification categories (if visible), enable each of the following:
-
Check-In Reminders
-
Missed Check-In Alerts
-
Help Alerts
-
Status Confirmations
-
-
For each category, ensure:
-
Sound is ON (choose a distinct tone).
-
Pop on screen (or “Peeking”) is ON so alerts appear even when locked.
-
Lock screen notifications are set to “Show all notification content.”
-
Tip: If you see separate toggles for sound and vibration, enable both so you notice alerts in Do Not Disturb mode or when silent.
